Our Services

At Kōtihi Reo Consultants, we offer high level expertise in Māori Language and Cultural services. We provide excellence in teaching the Māori language, highly proficient language translating services from English to Māori, Māori to English as well as script writing and editing.

🎓 Teaching

We cater to all learning levels of the Māori Language and can tailor learning programmes to suit your learning requirements from a one day Māori language class to a full time individualised course of study. We cater for one on one learning both face to face and Skype as well as group sessions to improve competency in a learning environment that is supportive, fun and non-threatening.

📖 Cultural Advisory

A very unique feature of our company is in offering a chaperone service in visiting Māori audiences and venues where marae protocols and cultural perspectives will be explained. We offer professional and strategic advice for all aspects of the Māori culture for both private and public sectors.

🗨 Translations, script writing & editing

We provide highly proficient language translating services from English to Māori, Māori to English as well as script writing and editing.

Kōtihi Reo Consultants offer the expertise of their prime Māori Language Consultant, Anaha Hiini. Born and raised in Rotorua, Anaha is of Ngāti Tarāwhai, Ngāti Whakaue and Tūhourangi descent. Anaha’s academic achievements consist of the following:

Ph.D. Doctor of Philosophy in Te Reo Māori - Waikato University

Master's Degree (1st Class Honours) - Waikato University

Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo (School of Excellence in the Māori Language, Customs, and Protocols) - Te Wānanga o Aotearoa

Bachelor of Māori Studies - Waiariki Institute of Technology

Post Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching - University of Canterbury

Post Graduate Diploma in Iwi Studies - Te Wānanga o Raukawa

Advanced Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (ACTT) - Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

Anaha attributes much of his success to a passion for the revitalisation and the teaching of the Māori language and its protocols. In his personal opinion, Anaha believes that the Māori language is in serious decline and hopes to contribute to the revival of the language in order for it to be spoken in a native manner comparable to 60 years prior when the language was being spoken by the native speakers of that time.
